A new life begins.

Hello.  For those who do not know me, my name is Alan.   : )   For the last year, I've been wanting to start my own personal blog, but never had the chance until now.   Well, it's 1:00AM and I decided I better start blogging.  Unlike our company blog (islemediahawaii.blogspot.com), I wanted to dedicate this website to sharing the mixed emotions I've been feeling, and will be going through in the months to come as my life is drastically about to change.

Getting into videography was kind of a- freak accident... when my co-worker randomly asked me to film her wedding, I accepted the challenge.  I honestly had no idea what I was doing.  I spent months prior to her wedding studying videography, wedding videos, how to use stabilizers, even ...how-to operate a digital camera.  I've never considered myself an artist, but did always consider myself to be a people person and a fast learner.  Well,  on May 31, 2011....Isle Media was born.

A year and a half later, 100+ weddings under my belt, and having shot on all of the neighboring islands, Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Kona...and even Las Vegas, I made one of of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make in my life.   On September 28, 2012.  I decided to leave my career with the Honolulu Police Department.  For 5 years prior, I dedicated my life to serving the community, both as a patrol officer, and in my latter years, as a property crimes detective.   Always imagined myself retiring as a policeman.  The HPD was one of the best things to ever happen to me, and it sure as hell was hard to graduate from the academy.  I enjoyed serving others.  I enjoyed the structure.  The security.  I loved the work.  And most of all- my friends.  All of that changed, overnight- within a blink of an eye.

One day, I went into the Major's office, bawling my eyes out.  I've only cried once in uniform, ever.   This was the second time.   I was torn between two different paths, knowing very well that I couldn't give 100% to both.   I wanted to follow my heart- being in a career that would be best for my family and future.  I wanted to take better care of all the Isle Media company members who were depending on my leadership.   I wanted to take better care of our dear clients.   Although pursuing my artistic dreams was the bigger risk, I decided to take it.

Since then, I never looked back.

...the story has only begun.  Stay tuned.  It's going to get even better, I promise.

<3 Alan
